Highlights:
It didn't rain. Or snow. The weather was warm, balmy, cloudless. Jackal has a newly painted bottom. (This is dragging the barrel).

Downers:
Hmmm. Trouble with racing is you need wind.

Result:
Cancelled.

Lessons Learnt:
If you don't race, you don't screw up.

.......
3rd Autumn Series - Long Inshore. Friday 5th November
Wind 5-10, later 10 - 15 north easterly.

Well once again, we're down to the Club, following last Tuesday, when we had Peter Spicer's (Yella Belly, now sold to Patrick and Breda Beckett) farewell bash, and resulting headaches.

Trevor is doing the Race Secretary thing, so briefing at 09:30 sees racing postponed to 11:00 to allow a good stiff breeze to fill in nicely. So out to the start line we motor, hauling up the sails and glide down to where the other boats are waiting for us, silent and still, on a mirror calm sea. Bloody typical. After a postponement to 11:30, and still no wind, Trevor decides to abandon, but agrees to wait another 15 minutes. The wind springs up from the South, so we scramble to make ready the bitch as our start will now be on a run, and literally two minutes from the start, drops to absolute zero! Bloody typical.

So Trevor sounds three horns (which means he doesn't want to play) and motors off for lunch at Bird Island (Sandspit) leaving us cursing. Jim, our new crew-in-training, doesn't look too happy either as we head back to the bar. And, yes, you guessed it: Just when we get there the wind comes in from the North at a nice steady 8-9 knots and remains that way for the rest of the day.

I think we might be trying to start our races a bit too early in the morning.... But I guess that the alternative would be just a bit too civilised - lying in bed till late, a leisurely breakfast followed by a lunchtime and early afternoon race.... But it's a good thought. Must speak to the chaps about this idea!

So that's it. Cancelled again.
